KIRA YAMATO | fall_to_freedom
Kira is his best friend and now comrade in the war they wage for peace. They have fought many times, once to the brink of death after killing each other's friends, but the bond they've shared since childhood remains strong. Athrun looks upon Kira with fondness and is one of the few people he is willing to open up to. No one else but Kira, and now maybe Cagalli, can ever persuade Athrun out of anything he has set his mind to. Yet at the same time, he sees his best friend to be far too optimistic and naive in certain areas, and seeks to shelter the boy from any harm resulting from that.

CAGALLI YULA ATTHA | thegoldenrose
Athrun sees Cagalli as a ~~violent~~ strong woman, and holds great respect for her principles. Her honesty in her words and emotions draws him to her like a moth to the flame. He's still unsure as to whether his feelings towards her tend towards platonic or romantic love, but he does enjoy his time with her. Being one who treats everyone the same, Coordinator and Natural alike, he of course isn't bothered by the fact that Cagalli is a Natural. She, too, falls under the umbrella of Athrun's protective streak.

NICOL AMARFI | aubade_daybreak
As the only ZAFT member of the Le Creuset team who was kind, gentle and overall sensitive to Athrun's emotions, Nicol has long earned Athrun's affection. He's more than pleased to see that Nicol's doing considerably well in this City. However, as a close comrade who died in battle protecting him, Nicol's presence only serves to aggravate the deeply rooted anguish and guilt Athrun experienced with his death. Athrun thus feels that the only way to lift the guilt is to protect Nicol in return. Should any harm befall Nicol, the rage towards the attacker will more likely than not be a displacement of the anger he feels at his own inability to protect someone dear. More to come on the connection with Kira.

YZAK JULE | avariciously
Yzak was and still is a bitter rival since their training in ZAFT Academy. Brash, ill-tempered and quick to act; Athrun sees Yzak as his mirror opposite and hence hard to interact with. Athrun is still of the opinion that the City has warped Yzak's mind into believing his death, for Athrun's certain that he would've heard news of such an important death - and he didn't. Nevertheless, his concern for Yzak is purely out of comradeship, given that he tends to feel waves of animosity from the other pilot every time he approaches the latter. He does, however, see Yzak in a new light upon noticing the concern showed for Lacus Clyne.

LACUS CLYNE | shiny_lacus
Countless times Lacus has proposed strange ideas, many that cause nothing but worry, which when expressed then result into full-scale arguments. Having no experience with women who act like this, much less the once gentle Lacus he knew, Athrun is thoroughly frustrated by her selfish actions. While it hurts him to the core to hear the words of hate and anger Lacus has thrown at him, he's now more than determined to bring her home to PLANT - if not for Kira, then at least for Chairman Siegnel Clyne.

GARMA ZABI | dopper_prince
Pompous, demanding, idiotic and with a superiority complex likely put up as a shield to cover one that is inferior - that's how Athrun sees Zabi. Yet, he understands that the other man must have suffered great hardships in his world and sees that beneath all those words and theories, Zabi is really a good man. Thus, Athrun holds enough sympathy to give in to certain requests, such as the instalment of a laser function in Char the red haro. While Athrun sees no need in protecting Zabi as the latter does deserve most of what he gets, he will defend his spacenoid cousin if necessary.

SUNNY | killer_sunshine
Athrun fully respects Sunny for being a skilled assassin at her age. His affection for her has grown over the weeks he has spent in the City, pleased that she's interacting so pleasantly with his friends and grateful for her (well-hidden?) concern for him. He's amused by her constant laments of growing weak in the face of love, quietly happy that she has found someone to go out with. Like an extremely protective brother, he won't easily forgive anyone who hurts Sunny in any way.

EVELYNNE | unbewildered
While Athrun had already taken a liking to Evelynne on their first meeting, her tenacity in persuading Athrun out of the fight with Yuber sealed that fact, as well as his wish to keep her out of harm. He likes Amadeus as well, and now understands why Evelynne has been roommates with the latter for so long. At the same time, Evelynne's sharpness and blunt manner of speaking startles Athrun at times - no one has ever told him "don't emo" straight to his face before. He worries for her stress levels, but refrains from nagging as he is aware that Amadeus is probably taking care of that issue well enough.

EIKO CAROL | moonlit_jewel
Eiko is one evidence of Athrun's hidden loli-shouta complex. Not quite, but he does feel a need to protect any children he sees in the City, and Eiko is the first child he met. He not only cares for Eiko but admires her warm spirit and courage. Vowing to protect the little healer after her breakdown over the absence of her friends, Athrun wants nothing more than to keep that promise. The only problem he may have with Eiko is her innocence when it comes to mature situations, where she will promptly turn to him for an explanation, much to his embarrassment. Unfortunately, this frequently occurs due to Athrun's tendency to forget to watch his words. All the same, he would rather have Eiko direct these questions to him rather than some pervert.

SCHULDIG | guise_and_guilt
Quite plainly, Athrun doesn't like Schuldig. Not only is the man dangerous with his ability to read into people's darkest secrets, but he seems to enjoy the pastime of teasing Athrun. With nicknames ("kitten" and "schnuckiputzi"), mentions of sex and STDs (genital herpes, being one) and constant reminders that his mind and dreams are being read, Athrun tenses at the mere sight of Schuldig, expecting the other man to pull something if he isn't careful.

RABI | h_ammertime
Athrun sees Rabi as a friend, but is always confused when the boy flirts with him. Completely unsure of how to handle romantic advances even from the opposite sex, Athrun can only blush and stare in embarrassment when Rabi easily throws out phrases of love at him. Nevertheless, Rabi's cheeriness and ability to light up the atmosphere around him is a god-sent for Athrun. Chances are, he will never forget the day he spent with Rabi, buying ladies underwear and watching the other boy parade said underwear for him that same evening.
